Additional Information

HD Mattifying Balm is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 127.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well! I have oily skin, at least on my forehead. This balm helps so much with keeping my skin from getting too shiny. I apply it before my foundation. I can really tell a difference if I don’t take the time to put it on.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not sure how mattifying it is... Not sure how mattifying it truly is because I didn't notice much of a difference. It is how very soft and almost appears to blur a bit. I wore it plain so have no experience with it over make up. Overall it's alright and my pores were a tad less noticeable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful This dries my face and makes makeup look caked on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Recommend as a primer Works great as a primer, similar to several other higher-end balm primers I've tried, but it's easier to apply and stays in place just as well. I apply with a foundation sponge. I really like it with the ELF yellow corrective powder on top of this balm (to correct my redness) followed by mineral foundation (ELF, Why can't I get that here any more??) and it looks quite natural. Without the balm my pores are quite visible and the balm also helps the yellow powder stick to freshly washed skin. Sorry, I have not tried this balm on top of my foundation and I can't really comment on the "mattifying" claim - my skin is combo oily and I apply finishing powder periodically with all products.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from amount of product in compact I really liked this product. It was much easier to apply, and the results were so much better, than Ulta's brand of a similar matte balm primer. Elf's balm kept me oil free and preserved my foundation all day and into the night. I used it on my very oily T-zone with the enclosed sponge. If/when the sponge became soiled, I just replaced it with similar sponges of the same size, available at the local dollar store. I didn't consider that a problem, just my preference. I'll definitely keep purchasing Elf's mattifying balm. My only complaint is the small amount of balm in the compact, which is definitely an inconvenience. Please come up with a container holding up to 3 times the product. I realize that might make it more expensive, but it would be worth it to me. Thanks very much.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Didn't Work for Me I really wanted to like this, I did. I've been trying to find a product that will keep the oil on my face at bay, cause I have REALLY oily skin. I first got it because the reviews were good, and the ingredients weren't bad. I've used over half of it, and I still don't really like it. It does make you matte and minimize the look of your pores, but the effect only lasts a couple hours on me, tops. After that I'm back to being a greasy mess. The one okay thing is that it didn't break me out, which I'm always cautious of. Also, the packaging isn't the best. I've attached photos so you can see, but before you chalk it up to being too rough with it, I'm very careful with my stuff, and most of the time it was sitting on top of my desk. I've taken it on the go less than 5 times, but it still broke. It could just be the one I got but just a heads up. I do think it could work for someone else, but it just didn't for me

Hi, do we apply the balm on the face before the foundation or after that?

Asked by: fabiola13
I put it on after I had a full face of makeup with the sponge, and carry it on my purse in case I get oily throughout the day. It worked great for me even though my t zones is very oily.

What do most people use to apply this product?

Asked by: maddiibumzz1
I like it best with clean fingers..wonderful at concealing pores. If using b4 foundation, only use a water based foundation.

I'm afraid I might be using this product wrong. I put it under my makeu, it came in small chunks of balm, I used the pad in sort of a swiping motion. Then I tried it another day over my makeup and it took off my facial makeup. My skin is very oily.

The sponge that comes with this is terrible. I think it is the cause of many people's problems with this product. I almost gave up on the balm before I realized the cheap, crumbly sponge was the issue. I wash my hands and use my middle finger to apply a small amount with a light dabbing motion. I've used it both before my makeup and for touching up any shine late in the day.
